My injury on the treadmill and a sad decision

31 Jan

Wednesday run:  10 easy miles, 1 % incline, 6.9 mph

Usually when I run on the TM, I require an intense TV show to keep me distracted.  Last night I just felt like zoning out with music, which I listened to the entire time.

The run was quite pleasant accept for the fact that I kept hitting my hand on the TM bar in front of me.  The particular TM that I run on has a bar in the front that has a fan.  The fan is a nice feature, especially in our apartment building’s stuffy basement, but this thing ALWAYS gets in my way.  Last night was particularly bad, perhaps because I was running so slow and wanting to overtake the TM, but I kept punching that darn thing every half mile or so.

I used my wonderful photography skills to capture this pic! ha. I took it while running...I was trying to show you that stupid bar that always gets in my way.

Not sure if you can see it, but I was trying to show you the bruise I had on my first knuckle from punching the TM. Don't worry, I'll be ok ; )

Yesterday I had to make a really sad decision:  I quit my gym membership.  Being the obsessive running/working out nut that I am, I have had gym membership since grade school–when I was 11 I started working with a personal trainer to work on strength training for skating.

I just love the gym atmosphere…the variety of cardio and weight equipment, the opportunity to take classes, and the extra motivation to work hard (cause you made the effort to go and are surrounded by other people).

However, I will have a lot of expenses coming up that I need to save up for, so I realized the monthly gym membership fee had to go.  It was a luxury I did not need, especially since I have a workout room with basic stuff in my apartment complex that I can use for free.   Soooooooo, I sadly sent off this email : (

Yes, I was very traumatized by this whole experience.   I am confident, though, that I will overcome this terrible loss and move on….eventually.  #firstworldproblems

Alright, that’s it.  Here are a few random pics to end this post with:

I just HATE it when people leave their shopping carts in their parking spot. How fricken lazy can you be?? Have some respect and take ten seconds to wheel it to where it belongs.

Have you ever heard of these apples before?? First time I've ever seen or heard of them, so I decided to give them a try...delicious! Just finished eating one now!

Have you ever heard of these apples before?? First time I’ve ever seen or heard of them, so I decided to give them a try…delicious!   Favorite type of apple?  I typically go for Fuji or whatever is on sale, but I might start buying these more often.  The only type I don’t like are Granny Smith apples.

Maybe wear boxing gloves next time on the TM? :-) The Opal apples sound interesting. I will give them a try if I see them in the store.

That happens to me on the treadmill all the time! I think it’s because I’m short (like 5’3-5’4) and my arms just happen to fall at the right height to punch the treadmill when I run. It’s so annoying and I usually end up running with my shoulders tensed up and my arms higher than normal.

Those apples sound good, I’m going to look for them!

I’m 5’1-5’2, so maybe that’s in part why.

Oh my gosh! You beat the hell out of that treadmill. haha.

I’ve never seen those apples but apples are my favorite fruit. I like them cold and crisp! I usually buy golden delicious:-)

Ouch! Does the knuckle hurt when you move it (like typing)? What a crazy injury!
I’ve never seen Opal apples… but I have the best kids-approved apple dip. One part yogurt plus one part whipped cream then chill for a few hours in the fridge. It’s probably not the healthiest dip because of the whipped cream, but it helps them get some extra fruit in their diets.

The knuckle doesn’t hurt that much, only when I press on it whenever I continue to punch the TM. haha.

      That dip sounds amazing!

Good luck with your home fitness workouts. I am geographically unfit for the gym so get the challenges that you face.
