Good evening from Midway airport, where I am waiting for Southwest to take me out to DC, where I will be living for the next month.
Airports are just so fascinating, from a people watching perspective, don’t you think?
Anyway, as a radiology resident, we all have to take a month long course out in DC at some point during our third year, so that’s what I’m doing. It’s not a hard month….in fact, it is typically a really fun month for the residents that go. You attend lecture from 8-4 every day and then have your evenings and weekends free….no responsibilities. In the past, there is usually a lot of going out and having fun with your fellow colleagues attending the course from around the United States and world.
I’m, however, trying to treat this month as a time to buckle down and really start studying for boards. In the past when people have gone, they have at least a year between their month in DC and their boards. The American Board of Radiology changed the boards exam structure and timing, so I’ll be taking my boards this upcoming September/October, which is going to come up REALLY quickly. I mean….I get back from DC in mid April, I then essentially work a month straight with only a few days off, I then have my wedding, honeymoon, and another wedding, which takes me to Mid June. We then have our Mock Boards in June. Dean and I then have two out of town weddings this summer, and so before I know it, September is going to be here. If I don’t start taking the studying seriously, I will end up being one super stressed and super unpleasant person to be around! I figure if I’m going to be a way from Dean for a month, I might as well use that time I would’ve been spending with him studying as much as I can.
I will do SOME fun stuff out there, though, and will try to meet up with some of my friends living in the area whom I haven’t seen forever : )
In regards to running, I am proud to say that I think my running slump is over! My last two runs were just awesome. I ran outside, and it was just so refreshing to be out in the cool, crisp air. For the first time in many, many weeks, I actually felt strong and powerful when running….such a great, empowering feeling.
When out in DC, I won’t have access to a treadmill or gym (unless I choose to pay for one, which I’d rather not), so I will have to do all my cardio workouts by running outside, which is fine by me. I will also probably buy a pair of light hand weights so I can do some strength training when I’m out there in my room. I have a video of a workout with some great exercises you can do right in your room with nothing more than one set of weights, which I’ll try to post in my next post.
K, that’s it for now! Below are some pics from my recent runs and some other misc. pics. For my ‘blogger friends’, I will be catching up on blogs this weekend…just haven’t had a chance to yet!

Finished my run at a local bar, where I met up with my friend Usha and later with Dean. Yes, this is what I wear to the bar. So classy haha.

My running look during my morning run. I am definitely not the most fashionable runner out there. haha. THat’s the advantage of running outside in the morning…no one can tell how awkward you look!

You make me want to go to Chicago so badly, I love all your pictures! I need to start taking more pictures when I run
Do you use a point and shoot camera?
great pics of Chicago! Glad you’re back up and running!
